I am an avid reader. I like all sorts of books - from light fiction that I can escape into the story and give my mind a break, to cookbooks, to health and wellness books, to personal development and finance books. To say the least I have a bit of a "thing" for books. My fiancee thinks I may have a small addiction to them! Ha!
At the beginning of every year I put together a list of books that I would like to read, or that have been recommended to me. It's not a fixed list....it morphs and changes over the course of the year, depending on where my focus is at that time. I don't think I've ever deleted a book from my list....but I have deferred some for later in order to get to some others that may be more in line with what I'm doing at that moment.
I'm a big believer in sharing knowledge and recommendations as they come along. So I'd like to share some of my favourites as well as a few that I can't wait to get into. Also....I would love to hear about what you're reading. What are your favourites? Any recommended reading you think I should add to my list? Like I said....I enjoy all genres - so I'm open to any suggestions. If you have something you'd like to tell me about leave me a comment below.
Or just email me directly - Click here to email. Ok...on with my favourites!
On my "Top Picks" List:

Essentialism - by Greg McKeown
Essentialism is not one more thing – it’s a whole new way of doing everything. A must-read for any leader, manager, or individual who wants to do less, but better, and declutter and organize their own their lives, Essentialism is a movement whose time has come.
and just for fun....
The Outlander Series (8 books) - by Diana Gabaldon
Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander series blends rich historical fiction with riveting adventure and a truly epic love story.
I'll be honest....I LOVE this series. I actually read it once a year....EVERY year. This is one of my all time favourite fiction series and I just keep going back again and again. There is also a TV series on Showcase channel....but I recommend you read the books. Fair warning: they are BIG books...like really long....but such an amazing story, and great writing. Also, the author is currently in the process of writing the 9th book in the series. I am super excited about this...seriously....but it usually takes her a few years to write one book, so I'm not so patiently waiting.
The books I'm reading next:
The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution - by Aviva Romm, M.D.
The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution explains Dr. Romm's coined term Survival Overdrive Syndrome, and how it impacts our bodies and can lead to illness, and most importantly, offers a drug-free cure developed through Dr. Romm’s research and clinical work with tens of thousands of patients. In as little as two weeks, you can lose excess weight, discover increased energy, improve sleep, and feel better. With The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution, you can rescue your metabolism, hormones, mind and mood—and achieve long-lasting health.
On a personal note: A big part of my journey this year and last year was focused towards healthy living and prioritizing "self-care" in this crazy busy life that we are all living. I have been following Dr. Romm in her blogging, podcast and Facebook posts, and I think she is a shining light in the area of women's health. I think as women we often put ourselves last, and the reality is a lot of us are running on empty and feeling the effects. I will post an update once I've received the book (Ships on Jan. 31st) - but I have high expectations that it will be a game changer for a lot of people.
Tools of Titans - by Tim Ferriss
The author writes: "For the last two years, I've interviewed more than 200 world-class performers for my podcast,The Tim Ferriss Show.....Everything within these pages has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life in some fashion. I've used dozens of the tactics and philosophies in high-stakes negotiations, high-risk environments, or large business dealings. The lessons have made me millions of dollars and saved me years of wasted effort and frustration. I created this book, my ultimate notebook of high-leverage tools, for myself. It's changed my life, and I hope the same for you."
I listen regularly to Tim's podcast, and he really does bring in all the top performers from all walks of life, and across a wide range of industries and specialties. I've read his previous 3 books, and am really looking forward to what he has put together this time.
The Blue Zones - by Dan Buettner
Longevity expert Dan Buettner draws on his research from extraordinarily long-lived communities—Blue Zones—around the globe to highlight the lifestyle, diet, outlook, and stress-coping practices that will add years to your life and life to your years.
I'm really excited to read this book. I've heard a lot about it over the years. It's certainly not new to the market. But for some reason I've never picked it up until now.
I hope you get some ideas and enjoyment out of exploring my top picks for reading, and some of my upcoming books. I truly would love to hear what you have been reading, or if you have a shelf of books ready to go for 2017 like I do! Email me here, or leave me a comment below!
